Resilient DiamaPro Floor Coating Handles Big Traffic and Good Times at Myrtle Beach Tin Roof Bar
Originally founded near Music Row in Nashville in 2002, Tin Roof Bars is a chain of popular restaurants with locations in major cities throughout the south. Tin Roof is noted for exceptional live music, an amazing culinary experience, and a lively, eclectic venue.
When opening a new location in Myrtle Beach, Tin Roof chose a site located on the renowned seashore boardwalk on Ocean Boulevard. The location ensured patrons a panoramic ocean view, but at the same time posed a special challenge: managing the floor abrasion from heavy foot traffic laden with beach sand. A floor coating was needed that could not only withstand heavy abrasion, but also the staining and bacteria growth inherent to restaurants and food service operations. The coating also had to ensure easy cleaning each night after hours.
The architect for the site chose DiamaPro UV HS Plus as the preferred floor coating. Here is why.
Instant curing to an incredibly hard surface
DiamaPro UV HS Plus is an aliphatic urethane that cures instantly upon contact with ultraviolet light to an extremely hard, impenetrable surface. Unlike conventional coatings, there is no downtime waiting for chemical curing. The floor can immediately be put into service enabling tradesmen or employees to resume their activities without harming the surface.
Once cured, DiamaPro’s tightly linked molecular structure is highly durable and resistant to abrasion in even the most heavily trafficked sites. It’s a coating that protects the floor for years to come, along with the value of investment.
Microban additive ensures sanitation
In a restaurant environment where flooring is subject to food and drink spills, preventing the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew is critical, particularly at sites in hot, humid climates. DiamaPro UV HS Plus with Microban eliminates microbial growth by preventing their ability to multiply. The floor remains cleaner between routine cleanings, even after exposure to harsh or caustic agents.
DiamaPro UV HS Plus cures to an extremely hard and durable surface, and will not chip, crack or form crevices like epoxies. This eliminates the places where bacteria can grow, resulting in an inherently cleaner and appealing floor.
Completely compatible with concrete colorants
DiamaPro UV HS Plus can be used in tandem with floor colorants and dyes, an integral part of the interior design. A waterborne dye was applied to the floor to produce a deep, mottled brown color. In turn, the color was enhanced when coated with DiamaPro UV-HS Plus, and the finish had an aesthetically appealing, reflective sheen.
Adapting to unique site demands
The flooring contractor for the Myrtle Beach Tin Roof, Concrete Design from Wilmington NC, encountered a problem concerning the water tightness of the building. Torrential rains had occurred during construction before window caulking was completed, and water was seeping onto the floor. Fortunately, once DiamaPro UV-HS Plus is cured it is impervious to water damage. This enabled the installer to apply and cure DiamaPro between rainstorms, completing the floor within the allotted time frame. If a chemically cured urethane had been selected, significant delays would have occurred due to extended curing times.
Applications beyond flooring needs
When the floor coating process was completed, Concrete Design was asked if the DiamaPro UV-HS Plus could be used to coat the concrete bar tops. Concrete Design workers stripped the existing acrylic sealer, ground the surface, and applied and cured two coats of DiamaPro UV-HS Plus. The expansive bar area was completed within the 24-hour time frame allotted for this add-on project. Tin Roof now has a bar surface will not absorb water or stain, stops the growth of bacteria, and is easy to clean.
